Historical Researcher

Laurier Research Group Limited is now accepting applications for the contract position of Historical Researcher.

This is a potential part-time or full-time contract role starting in April 2024 and located remotely or in the Ottawa area. You will be working on research relating to land claims, treaty claims and historical issues related to Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

Most of the work will be conducted from your own home office, with additional tasks to possibly be conducted on site at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa. This role is flexible and you can set your own hours as long as you complete your tasks.

We are looking for a minimum of an undergraduate degree in History, Political Science, Social Sciences, Law, Sociology or Indigenous Issues / Native Studies, archival or library studies, or other similar subject areas.

 

Duties will include some of:

File review online (work from home), file review on site at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa, reviewing primary and secondary documentation, reviewing finding aids, historical report writing, data entry, obtaining copies, editing and proofreading.

 

Bonus Qualifications:

– Master’s degree

– Existing Federal Government security clearance is a huge advantage

– Experience researching on-site and online at Library and Archives Canada

– Archival research experience

– Past experience working for another historical research company

– Experience working on Indigenous research projects / Indigenous litigation / historical litigation

– Bilingual

– Located in Ottawa / Gatineau / NCR region
