Volunteer Consultant

Are you a retired or current experienced professional looking for a way to contribute your knowledge and skills in an independent, flexible role that works with your schedule?

MAS volunteers carry out consultation projects with not-for-profit organizations providing analysis, guidance, information, and resources.  Usually, the volunteer works with the organization to produce a result such as a strategic or change management plan, a Board model or orientation guide, a communications or marketing strategy, a report of some sort, a new organization or program design, a volunteer strategy, a budget, an IT change etc.

A MAS Volunteer Consultant sets their own work load, taking on as many consulting projects in a year as they wish.  Many will work with one or two Not-for-Profit organizations a year, others with up to ten.  Once matched up with the organization by MAS you will settle on an objective and Work Plan with them.  Projects generally take 15 to 20 hours and a couple of months to complete.

MAS offers our services in the following Practice areas:

1. Governance

2. Strategy and Strategic Planning

3. Human Resources (including executive coaching, volunteer management)

4. Communications (including marketing and fundraising strategy)

5. Finance

6. Information management and technology

Why Volunteer with MAS?

Our work is vitally important for the 150+ charities and not-for-profits we provide free services to every year.  They can’t afford “real” consulting help and our VC’s make a huge difference in their ability to do good work.

This is deeply satisfying volunteer work where you set your own schedule and work with organizations you believe in, to address issues and improve performance.

What We are Looking For?

Experienced (5 years+) and knowledgeable professionals, currently working or retired.

Ability to provide help in any of the six Practice areas above.

Familiarity with planning, problem solving, providing advice and guidance.

Understanding of the role of an outside consultant.

Ideally able to work weekday hours (as this is when our clients are working).

It is Important to Note:

MAS focuses our support on non-profit organizations that respond to the needs of underserved and marginalized communities and people.  We are committed to a positive and inclusive approach and to building understanding and trust within racialized communities.

MAS welcomes a wide range of skilled individuals from different walks of life and in particular seeks to engage people from under-represented groups such as Black, Indigenous, new Canadians and LGBTQ2S+.
